Birch Barn Tips

Please remember we have two other homes on the property, so do not play loud music or shout, especially late at night, thanks.

Some helpful pointers and ideas to help you to better enjoy the barn:

General:

  • Be careful driving at night, especially thru the Granville Gulf on RT 100. Moose frequent this area and are very hard to see. Drive slowly and if you see one in the road, honk your horn. They use their hearing more than their sight.
  • The barn has a Tesla battery back-up, so you will NOT notice if there is a power outage. They usually only last for an hour or two.
  • During a snow storm, please be aware that our property manager will need to plow, so please park so he can do the majority of the drive, then move over to allow him access to the other areas.

Bathrooms:

  • The main full bath is between two bed rooms on second floor. Second full bath is located on basement level at the foot of the stairs.
  • There are also half baths on the first and third floors.
  • Each bathroom has a “boost” switch. This acts as a bathroom fan for a thirty minute period and should be used for all showers, etc. You just need to hit the switch once and the fan will go on for 30 minutes.

Hot tub:

  • Hot tub is best accessed from the basement. Use shower on basement level at the foot of the stairs to pre-rinse as well as post rinse. In the summer, there is an outdoor shower. Laundry soap is the number one enemy of hot tubs, so please rinse before entering.
  • At the beginning of your stay, before entering tub, open cover, then add one bag of shock. Turn on the jets and let it sit open for 15 minutes before using. This will refresh the water and insure all particulates are removed. (We change the water and clean the filter frequently as well.) This allows time for a quick shower before entering.
  • Hot tub is fastened by four total clips on two sides. You must undo all clips first, then lift open the cover from the right side. It will fold OVER the middle bar, then you can lift from the middle and it will stand up on the left side. ALWAYS close the tub and refasten the clips whenever you finish. The mountain winds can easily lift the cover open and winter temps can cause major potential frozen plumbing problems. Jets will come on periodically to circulate water. (They will also turn off automatically if you forget.)

TV/Movie Theater:

  • For TV and movies, pull the screen down until you touch the top of the soundbar. To raise, just tug and gently hold on as it returns into the casing. To operate, turn on Leica projector using the remote and then use menu to navigate apps. Live TV can be watched using the YouTube TV app. (Don’t forget your codes or use ours if open.)
  • Leica remote automatically turns on Bose system, so NO need need to use Bose remote. Look for instruction sheet on coffee table for more details. Please keep remotes on the coffee table so that they are there for the next guests.
  • For music, Bose sound system can be used via Bluetooth with most any phone or computer. Bose remote and your phone can control volume. Please remember that there are other cabins nearby, so do not play loud music with windows open.

Fireplace:

  • Fireplace is controlled via “Fireplace remote”. Follow labels to turn on or off and adjust. It takes a minute, but the fan will turn on once it is warmed up. If operating on the thermostat, it may turn off, but fan will continue. When done, be sure to turn off even if there is no flame at the time.

Trash:

  • Trash can go into the dumpster inside the garage. There is a receptacle for recycling next to the dumpster.

Outdoor lights:

  • Outdoor lights on decks and around hot tub are on an automatic timer. They are programmed to come on at dusk and go off at midnight. The fixed overhead front yard light is controlled by the far left hand switch (of 3) in the mudroom. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THESE ON OVERNIGHT, as it is extremely bright and visible from outer space. (Jk… but it may bother neighbors.)
  • The front porch string lights on the deck are on a timer. They go off at midnight.

Sundries, etc.:

  • Additional toilet paper, soap, paper towels, etc. are located in the mudroom closet.

Washer/Dryer:

  • Washer and dryer are located in basement to the right at bottom of stairs and then in left room. Detergent goes into drawer visible after you open the top. Laundry sink is there as well. Be sure to clean lint filter before or after each use.
  • Please do not let children play in the basement. I am still working on finishing it out, so there are various devices and tools which are not toys.
